An audio soundscape created using only audio material harvested from visits to water bodies around Allenheads: Streams, Tributaries, Aquafers, Waterfalls, Pools and Reservoirs. A Zoom audio recorder was used to capture the acoustic flow of water above and below ground, sometimes deep inside the nearby mine.
All of the sounds were harvested during the 10 days spent exploring this unique area in the North Pennines, UK - with it’s mighty landscapes, rockscapes, waterscapes and moonlit moorscapes. This residency became an embodied exploration of the many layers that exist within our ecosphere - a powerful and awakening experience.
This 2 minute piece was played as part of a performance in the observatory at Allenheads on Thursday 16th September 2021, where the roof slides off to reveal the dark sky. On a clear night the Milky Way, planets and stars can be admired from the comfort of a deckchair! Local residents, artists and ACA hosts Alan Smith and Helen Ratcliffe visited the installation. Despite several technical issues relating to bluetooth, software and a corrupted SD card, the show went on… vital learning and experience to carry forward in working from remote places.
I invite you to step outside on a starry night and listen:
The soundscape is titled 'Mine, Moon and Mountain'
